Quality Engineer - Cement Plant

About the role

HBM Nigeria is looking for a Quality Engineer to support its cement plant. The role defines and implements short-, medium- and long-term strategies to meet product specifications and ensures the reliability of laboratory test equipment. It covers sampling, analysis, quality control, compliance with standards and quality data management.

Key responsibilities

• Perform tasks safely and efficiently, check that chemical and physical testing is handled correctly and ensure safe storage of tests and products
• Analyse risks related to sampling points and respect standards for sampling, preparation and analysis; check the reliability of analytical results
• Support lab operators in interpreting unexpected values and ensure compliance with simulated raw materials and blending ratios
• Maintain laboratory and measuring equipment and ensure 100% compliance with HBM Quality Technical Standards (LQTS) across all laboratories, including daily/weekly checks
• Follow the evolution of official measurement norms and liaise with the Technical Centre on measurement techniques
• Check that end products meet company specifications and standards before dispatch, obtain customer quality feedback and take corrective and preventive actions
• Manage quality data documentation, laboratory resources (staff motivation, training and career development) and equipment
• Propose targets and limits, run experimental plans under supervision, coordinate the quality control programme and interpret results to notify managers of non-compliance
• Take part in quality audits, champion laboratory round-robin tests, develop quality indicators and report on product quality to the Technical Centre

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Laboratory Technology
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience
• Good knowledge of cement manufacturing processes (raw meal preparation, burning, combustion and grinding) and cement standards
• Commitment to safe work habits and good knowledge of safety laws and regulations
• Good written and verbal communication skills
