Project Officer – Regional Cooperation (Democracy, Governance & Migration)

About the role

The European Union Delegation in Abuja seeks a Project Officer to support the Regional Cooperation unit within the Democracy, Governance and Migration section. The role involves assisting the team in designing, implementing and monitoring EU‑funded projects that promote democratic governance, migration management and civil society development.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, develop and manage EU‑funded projects and programmes in the fields of democracy, governance and migration.
• Analyse trends in the civil‑society sector and prepare sector reports for the Delegation and EU headquarters.
• Support policy dialogue with national authorities, NGOs and other stakeholders.
• Monitor project implementation, ensure compliance with EU regulations and produce regular progress reports.
• Coordinate with internal units and external partners to ensure timely delivery of project milestones.

Required profile

• University degree in political science, international relations, development studies or a related field.
• Relevant experience in project management or international aid/cooperation, preferably within an EU context.
• Strong understanding of EU funding mechanisms and policy frameworks.
• Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and adapt to occasional atypical working hours.
