Program Director - African NGO

About the role

A leading Nigerian NGO, whose aim is to drive research and advance the work of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and their stakeholders across Africa, is hiring a Program Director through its recruiter. The role leads the organization's efforts, develops and guides its strategic vision, manages internal and external stakeholder relationships and builds a continent-wide network that makes Civil Society relevant in Africa's development.

Key responsibilities

• Design and run programs and events aligned with the organization's areas, covering Research & Publications, Annual Conference, Capacity Building and Events/Programs.
• Support members' research, identify funding opportunities, partner with research institutes and strengthen training initiatives to improve research capacity.
• Oversee finance and administration, including Finance & Accounting, Operations/Logistics, record keeping and general administration, ensuring efficient use of funds and proper reporting to the advisory board.
• Set annual fundraising targets and align program needs with forecasting and budgeting.
• Act as the main spokesperson, articulate the mission to diverse audiences, expand membership (institutional and individual) and build partnerships, public relations and mentoring partner relationships.
• Recruit and retain staff and foster a healthy work environment that supports staff growth and productivity.

Required profile

• At least a postgraduate degree in the social sciences (a PhD preferred).
• At least 6 years of relevant managerial experience; experience across sectors is highly desirable.
• Essential experience in multi-national partnership building.
• Ability to understand the multiple contexts of Africa and bridge regions, academia and practice.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage multiple audiences effectively.
