Product Manager - Consumer Payments (Fintech)

About the role

A client of the recruiter builds a consumer payments product for everyday spending in Africa, and is hiring a single Product Manager for it. The role owns the product from understanding customers through launch and iteration, reporting to the TSG Labs Business Lead. It is full-time, permanent, hybrid, based in Lagos.

Key responsibilities

• Talk to users every week (new users, power users, churners, non-signups) and run interviews, usability tests, surveys and ticket reviews to turn findings into problem statements.
• Build a standing feedback loop with Customer Support so recurring complaints reach the roadmap quickly.
• Own the product strategy and roadmap, set priorities and explain trade-offs to stakeholders.
• Define metrics such as activation, transacting users, retention, payment success rate, fraud losses and revenue per user, and review them regularly.
• Shape risk features (fraud controls, identity verification, transaction limits, account restrictions) with Compliance and Engineering, and own payment reliability across partners using failure and latency data.
• Design compliance workflows such as screening reviews, resolution tools and audit trails.
• Ship steadily with PRDs and specs, pull your own data with SQL, remove blockers and make several product calls a day.
• Work with Marketing on campaigns, referrals and incentives, and represent the product to banks, card networks and identity providers.

Required profile

• 5+ years of product management, including shipping a consumer product with real users.
• Experience in payments, banking or fintech.
• Track record of customer discovery: running interviews and research that changed a roadmap.
• Strong technical fluency: writing SQL, reading API docs and writing specs engineers build from.
• Based in Lagos with a strong understanding of how people in Nigeria pay and use money apps; a plus if you have worked in an early-stage team, with regulators or banks, or have an engineering, data or design background.
