Payroll Associate

About the role

FairMoney, a mobile banking institution focused on credit for emerging markets, is hiring a Payroll Associate in Lagos. The role works closely with the Compensation and Benefits Manager to administer payroll and related employee compensation processes accurately, in compliance and with efficient coordination with stakeholders. The workplace is hybrid.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with monthly payroll preparation and processing, including salaries, allowances, bonuses, deductions and reimbursements.
• Collect, review and update payroll inputs based on approved employee changes such as new hires, exits, promotions and salary adjustments.
• Help compute and document statutory deductions such as PAYE, pension, NSITF, ITF and NHF.
• Ensure payroll complies with Nigerian labour, tax, pension and data protection requirements.
• Maintain accurate and confidential employee payroll records.
• Help compute terminal benefits and other exit entitlements monthly.
• Answer routine employee payroll queries and escalate complex issues.
• Support statutory filings, remittances and payroll-related audits.
• Complete other tasks assigned by the line manager.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Human Resources or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in payroll administration, preferably in financial services.
• Good understanding of Nigerian payroll, PAYE, pension and other statutory deductions.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills, attention to detail, and integrity with confidential information.

Required skills

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other data analytics tools.
• Familiarity with HRIS or payroll software is an added advantage.
