Inventory Accountant (Account Specialist)

About the role

This is a full-time, on-site Inventory Accountant position in Nigeria, open to candidates with at least 5 to 8 years of experience managing inventory across different industries. The role takes substantial ownership of day-to-day accounting operations, financial records, inventory accounting, reconciliations, reporting and internal financial controls, and involves working with sales, warehouse, procurement and operations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate inventory records across warehouses, retail outlets and distribution channels, applying inventory costing and valuation methods in line with accounting policy and IAS 2 where applicable, and reconcile inventory sub-ledgers to the general ledger.
• Prepare landed-cost calculations for imported goods, record foreign currency transactions and assess exchange differences.
• Reconcile daily sales across stores, online platforms and wholesale customers, and manage receivables and accounts payable.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, bank reconciliations and other key reports, and lead the month-end close.
• Support tax compliance (VAT, withholding tax, PAYE, company income tax), internal and external audits, and enforce financial controls and segregation of duties.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or HND in Accounting; ICAN or ACCA qualification strongly preferred.
• 5 to 8 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in retail, wholesale, FMCG, importation or distribution.
• Demonstrated experience with management accounts, general ledger schedules, month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Good working knowledge of accounting standards and Nigerian tax compliance.
• Availability Monday to Saturday, including weekends, and willingness to attend stock counts, month-end close and audits.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel, including PivotTables, SUMIFS and lookup functions.
• Experience with accounting software or an ERP/inventory management system.
• Strong analytical judgement, accuracy and attention to detail.
