Occupational Health & Safety Officer

About the role

Dangote Industries Limited is looking for a competent Safety Officer for its Gboko plant to help implement the DCP-approved occupational safety program and administer its various components. The post covers monitoring compliance, managing contractor safety and ensuring that work is carried out safely.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor DCP employees, contracts and subcontracts to ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations.
• Protect all persons, including the public near the premises, from health and safety risks.
• Ensure work is carried out safely and to acceptable standards with minimum risk to people, property, equipment and materials.
• Report near misses, unsafe acts and unsafe conditions to DCP Management.
• Ensure daily toolbox talks are held before any work starts.
• Maintain fire apparatus in serviceable condition and inspect it regularly.
• Arrange emergency calls to medical facilities in case of serious accidents or illness.
• Issue requests for immediate corrective action from contractors when non-compliance or serious hazards are reported.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Head, Health, Safety and Environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering.
• At least five years of relevant work experience.

Required skills

• Adequate knowledge of the cement and manufacturing industry.
• Adequate knowledge of HSE management requirements and regulations.
• Ability to analyse incidents and propose solutions.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, teamwork skills.
