Nutrition Nurse – Acute Malnutrition Management

About the role

The Nutrition Nurse is responsible for managing acute malnutrition in children within a stabilization centre, following national and international guidelines. The role includes medical treatment, therapeutic feeding, and counselling to ensure recovery and prevent deterioration.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive medical examinations, monitor vital signs, and administer medicines according to protocols.
• Prepare and deliver therapeutic feeds and appropriate drugs (antibiotics, antimalarials, anthelminthics) for severely malnourished children.
• Monitor daily nutritional status and maintain accurate medical and nutrition records.
• Provide nutrition counselling and health education to mothers and caretakers.
• Ensure adequate stock of drugs and nutrition supplies and report any issues to the doctor or nutrition manager.
• Compile statistical data, generate activity reports, and maintain supply consumption logs.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a degree from a recognized nursing institute.
• At least two years of experience in CMAM and IYCF programmes.
• Valid and current practicing license.
• Excellent report‑writing ability.
• Fluent in written and spoken English and the required national/local language.
