Nuclear Medicine Technologist

About the role

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will deliver safe, high‑quality PET and SPECT imaging at AMCE Abuja, supporting diagnosis, disease staging and treatment planning through patient preparation, radiopharmaceutical handling, image acquisition and processing.

Key responsibilities

• Perform PET/CT examinations, applying authorised tracer‑specific protocols and coordinating injection, uptake and acquisition times with radiopharmacy.
• Conduct SPECT, planar and hybrid imaging studies, selecting appropriate collimators, energy windows and acquisition parameters.
• Verify patient identity, screen for pregnancy/breastfeeding, obtain consent and monitor patient wellbeing throughout the procedure.
• Handle radiopharmaceuticals safely, maintain traceable records and manage radioactive waste in line with regulatory requirements.
• Execute equipment quality control, QC documentation and basic troubleshooting, reporting incidents to the Radiation Protection Officer.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiography or Medical Imaging.
• Valid registration with the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN) or equivalent practising licence.
• Documented training and competence in PET/CT and SPECT imaging.

Required skills

• PET/CT and SPECT image acquisition and reconstruction.
• Radiopharmaceutical preparation, administration and waste management.
• Radiation protection principles and dosimetry.
• Equipment quality control for gamma cameras, PET/CT scanners and activity meters.
• Use of PACS and RIS for image transfer and documentation.
