MEAL Assistant

About the role

The MEAL Assistant strengthens monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning frameworks by gathering and validating field data, overseeing community feedback systems and measuring the effectiveness of humanitarian relief initiatives. The position ensures program outcomes are accurately tracked and that the organization stays responsive to the needs of the communities it serves.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out field data collection and verify it rigorously to ensure data integrity.
• Maintain mechanisms for receiving and managing community feedback, and manage complaint channels such as hotlines, suggestion boxes and help desks, escalating sensitive cases through established protocols.
• Monitor and assess the impact of relief operations and intervention programs.
• Help create and periodically review MEAL strategies, indicator tracking tables, data collection instruments and survey questionnaires.
• Gather data using digital platforms such as KoboToolbox and ODK alongside paper methods, adhering to ethical standards and data protection, then clean, validate and enter information.
• Run data quality assessments and spot checks, and facilitate baseline, midline and end-line evaluations, post-distribution monitoring, focus group discussions and key informant interviews.
• Analyze data to produce dashboards, executive summaries and reports on program progress, results and lessons learned.
• Organize review meetings, document best practices and share feedback with program teams and beneficiaries to support accountability to affected populations.
• Train field staff, volunteers and enumerators on data collection tools and standard operating procedures.
• Maintain secure MEAL databases and records, keeping beneficiary information confidential.
• Perform any additional tasks assigned by the direct supervisor.
