Lead Trader - Oil and Gas

About the role

Harcadiax Systems Ltd is looking for a Lead Trader to develop and run trading strategies that maximise profitability while managing market and financial risks. The role involves leading a team of traders, overseeing trading activities and managing trading portfolios within the oil and gas sector.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement trading strategies and monitor markets, price movements, economic indicators and industry trends to spot profitable opportunities.
• Execute and oversee trading in line with approved strategies, risk limits and company policies.
• Lead and supervise a team of traders, giving guidance, training and performance feedback.
• Analyse market data, trading patterns and financial reports to support trading decisions.
• Manage trading portfolios so positions match investment objectives and risk tolerance.
• Set and monitor trading limits, stop-loss levels and risk management procedures.
• Build relationships with brokers, financial institutions, counterparties and other market participants.
• Evaluate trading performance and find ways to improve returns and efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance or a related field.
• 7-10 years of oil and gas trading experience in Nigeria.
• Demonstrable experience in physical commodity deal origination, commercial negotiations and business development.
• Established network of Nigerian trading counterparties, suppliers and customers.
• Experience supervising trading personnel or coordinating a trading desk.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Nigerian oil and gas market structures and regulations.
• Understanding of commodity pricing, trading margins, hedging fundamentals and arbitrage.
• Strong commercial judgement, negotiation, analytical and relationship-management skills.
• Certifications in oil trading fundamentals, Incoterms, shipping, petroleum freight markets or related areas are advantageous.
