Project Finance & Cost Accountant

About the role

Rekrut Consulting is hiring a Project Finance & Cost Accountant based in Abeokuta and Ogun State, Nigeria. The role covers preparing, monitoring and managing project budgets, tracking expenditures against approved budgets, reviewing contractor invoices and supplier bills, and producing project financial reports for management.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, monitor and manage project budgets and track expenditures, commitments and actual costs against approved budgets.
• Prepare cost estimates, financial forecasts and cash flow projections for ongoing and proposed projects.
• Analyse project costs, identify variances and cost overruns, and recommend cost reductions.
• Maintain accurate financial records, including invoices, receipts, payment vouchers and project transactions, and reconcile project accounts, bank statements and supplier balances regularly.
• Review contractor invoices, supplier bills, purchase orders and payment requests for accuracy and contractual compliance.
• Monitor project cash flows, material, labour, equipment and overhead costs, and ensure expenses are documented, authorised and allocated to the right cost centres.
• Support tender preparation, cost planning, financial evaluations and feasibility assessments, and assist with financial audits.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, company policies and financial procedures.
• Monitor contract budgets, payment schedules, retention amounts and variations, and identify financial risks.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end project financial statements and management reports, and maintain an organised filing system.

Required profile

• A minimum of 5 years of experience.
• A minimum of a degree in a related field.
• Ability to respond to audit queries relating to Property, Plant and Equipment (PPE).
