Lead Protection Officer

About the role

M-KOPA is building an internal safeguarding function to protect its diverse workforce across Nigeria and other markets. As Lead Protection Officer you will design and own prevention measures, drive cultural change, manage communications on safeguarding, and oversee the full incident lifecycle from initial response to resolution.

Key responsibilities

• Raise awareness of safeguarding policies for all employees, from HQ staff to field agents, ensuring clear reporting channels.
• Design and deliver training programmes that shift behaviours and embed a protective culture.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for survivors, providing first‑response support, referrals and case management.
• Conduct investigations, liaise with law enforcement and external specialists, and document incidents in the grievance platform.
• Identify and mitigate risks proactively and advocate for duty of care across all management levels.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of hands‑on safeguarding experience with a proven record of handling sensitive cases.
• Deep understanding of Nigeria’s legal framework and cultural context regarding workplace harm.
• Experience in private‑sector, HR or field‑based environments is a strong advantage.
