Kitchen Assistant

About the role

Ofejiro Stopover Restaurant in Edo, Marina is looking for a Kitchen Assistant. The role covers basic food preparation, order handling and kitchen housekeeping, and also includes helping with food photography and short videos for social media. Candidates must live in Benin City or be willing to relocate there before starting.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with basic food preparation and prepare simple meals.
• Garnish, portion and present meals neatly and attractively.
• Pack food orders properly, keeping them clean and hygienic.
• Receive, process and attend to online orders, making sure they are correctly prepared, packaged and ready for dispatch.
• Coordinate the sending out of customer orders and respond to enquiries through WhatsApp and other channels.
• Help take food photographs and record short videos, and take part in creating content about meals and kitchen activities.
• Keep the kitchen clean, organised and hygienic.
• Receive supplies, monitor ingredients and carry out daily stock counts.
• Perform other kitchen and operational duties as required.

Required profile

• Previous kitchen, catering or food business experience is an advantage; entry level.
• Interest in food preparation, presentation and hospitality.
• Good communication and customer service skills, with prompt and polite responses to customers.
• Attention to detail and hygiene, honesty, punctuality and responsibility.
• Ability to follow instructions, work well with others and adapt to daily kitchen activities.
• Must currently reside in Benin City or be willing to relocate there; preference for those living close to the business or able to commute.

Required skills

• Basic smartphone skills for taking pictures and recording videos.
• Basic video editing skills are an advantage but not compulsory.
