Junior Underwriter

About the role

FairMoney, a mobile banking institution focused on credit to emerging markets, is hiring a Junior Underwriter in Lagos. The role supports credit risk management through credit assessment, business verification, financial analysis and portfolio monitoring, working closely with the Underwriting Lead and credit operations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Review and process initial credit applications in line with credit policies, underwriting procedures and approval guidelines.
• Support the day-to-day application of credit policies, standards and procedures.
• Verify businesses physically and online to validate submitted information.
• Analyse business models and financial statements to assess creditworthiness and identify risks.
• Monitor assigned businesses and credit facilities for emerging risks and escalate concerns.
• Assist in identifying, measuring and reporting credit risks, and review delinquent accounts to recommend corrective actions.
• Help review and update credit policies and underwriting standards, and prepare credit risk reports for management.
• Identify ways to improve the efficiency and accuracy of credit assessment and approval processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics or a related field.
• 1-2 years of experience in credit underwriting in banking or financial services, focusing on SME clients.
• Ability to analyse financial statements and assess credit risk.
• Proactive, self-motivated and results-oriented.

Required skills

• Proficiency in the MS Office Suite.
