Human Resource Officer

About the role

The Human Resource Officer at HOPE360 AID supports the Human Resources and Administration department by managing the organization's workforce. Based in Maiduguri, Borno State, this full-time or project-based role reports to the Human Resource Manager, Operations Manager or Country/Programme Manager. It covers the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to performance management, welfare and record-keeping, while upholding organizational policies, Nigerian labour law compliance and donor requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Talent acquisition: run the end-to-end recruitment cycle, draft job ads, screen applications, coordinate interviews and conduct background checks.
• Onboarding and administration: lead inductions, manage employment contracts and personnel files, keep a secure staff database and track contract timelines and probation periods.
• Time and payroll support: oversee attendance registers, manage leave requests and work with Finance on accurate payroll, including allowances and overtime.
• Performance and development: facilitate appraisals and probation reviews, help set objectives, identify training needs and coordinate development workshops and orientations.
• Employee relations: advise staff and supervisors on HR policies, mediate disputes confidentially and support management with disciplinary matters.
• Compliance and safeguarding: ensure HR activities follow Nigerian labour law and internal policy, with safeguards against exploitation, abuse, harassment and discrimination.
• Reporting and documentation: produce HR reports on turnover and recruitment progress, maintain organizational charts and prepare documents for internal and external audits.
• Cross-functional coordination: work with Finance, Programmes and Operations on staffing needs and workforce planning, and support field deployments administratively.
