HR Assistant

About the role

The HR Assistant plays a key role in building a supportive and well-managed workforce by overseeing recruitment, onboarding, personnel data management and welfare programmes for staff and volunteers. The role helps keep human resources aligned with operational goals and compliance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full recruitment cycle: advertising, screening applications, shortlisting candidates, scheduling interviews and coordinating reference and background checks for employees and volunteers.
• Facilitate onboarding by preparing offer letters, employment contracts and orientation packages, and run initial training on codes of conduct and safeguarding protocols.
• Maintain secure, up-to-date personnel files and HR databases, tracking contracts, leave balances, attendance and performance review schedules, and notify staff of upcoming deadlines.
• Work with the finance department to ensure accurate payroll inputs on attendance, leave and benefits.
• Organise and document training sessions, capacity-building workshops and professional development activities.
• Promote staff wellbeing and safety, with special attention to field workers.
• Handle employee queries, manage grievances and guide disciplinary procedures confidentially and fairly, in line with Nigerian labour law and donor HR requirements.
• Carry out exit procedures, including exit interviews and clearance and handover documentation.
• Perform other tasks assigned by management.
