About the role

Ellis Suites in Lagos is hiring a full-time Cook for its kitchen. The cook prepares a range of Nigerian local and continental dishes according to the hotel's menu and standards, working with other kitchen staff to deliver meals on time.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a variety of Nigerian local and continental dishes according to the hotel's menu and standards, ensuring meals are well prepared, properly seasoned and attractively presented.
• Maintain consistency in food taste, quality and portion sizes.
• Prepare ingredients and make sure all kitchen items are ready for daily operations.
• Monitor food stock, check ingredient quality and report items that need restocking; keep ingredients used before their expiry dates.
• Follow food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards at all times.
• Keep the kitchen, cooking equipment and work areas clean and organised.
• Work with other kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation and delivery of meals.
• Assist in creating new dishes and improving existing menu options.
• Minimise food waste and use kitchen supplies properly.

Required profile

• Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Cook in a hotel, restaurant or hospitality environment.
• Good knowledge of Nigerian local dishes and continental cuisine.
• Ability to prepare soups, rice dishes, pasta, sauces, grilled meals and other local and international dishes.
• Knowledge of food preparation techniques, kitchen equipment and food presentation.
• Good understanding of food hygiene, safety and proper food storage.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple food orders, with good time management and organisational skills.
• Culinary training or a relevant qualification is an added advantage.
