Healthcare Assistant

About the role

The Healthcare Assistant supports the pharmacist in delivering basic healthcare services and keeping pharmacy day-to-day operations running smoothly. The role involves assisting patients, performing basic health checks, maintaining hygiene standards, managing stock and supporting the dispensing process under the pharmacist's supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in serving patients and answering basic health questions
• Support dispensing by preparing prescriptions and packaging medicines under supervision
• Perform basic health checks such as blood pressure, temperature, blood sugar or weight where applicable
• Give basic health information and guidance to patients as directed by the pharmacist
• Help with first aid and minor wound care when needed
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the pharmacy environment and equipment
• Help with stock management, including receiving, organizing and monitoring medicine inventory
• Assist with record keeping and documentation of patient services and pharmacy activities
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and pharmacy regulations
• Direct patients with complex medical questions to the pharmacist or other healthcare professionals

Required profile

• Certificate or diploma in Healthcare Assistance, Nursing Assistance or a related healthcare field
• Basic understanding of patient care and medical terminology
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a customer-facing healthcare environment
• Preferred: previous experience in a pharmacy, clinic or hospital setting

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of first aid and vital signs monitoring
• Knowledge of pharmacy operations and medication handling (preferred)
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills (preferred)
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism (preferred)
