Head of Legal

About the role

CIG Motors is looking for a Head of Legal to oversee all legal matters within the organization. The role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, mitigates legal risks and provides strategic legal guidance, covering contract management, dispute resolution, corporate governance and adherence to industry-specific laws in the automobile sector.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with local, national and international automotive laws and monitor changes in legal and regulatory frameworks
• Develop risk management strategies and handle compliance issues on vehicle safety, labour laws and intellectual property
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts with suppliers, dealers and distributors, and manage legal aspects of mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures
• Represent the company in disputes, arbitration and court proceedings, and manage relationships with external legal counsel
• Handle product liability claims, warranty disputes and intellectual property rights issues
• Ensure corporate governance policies are in place, advise senior management and the board, and run ethical compliance programmes and training
• Protect trademarks, patents and proprietary technology, and oversee product safety, environmental, emissions, manufacturing and import/export compliance
• Advise on employment contracts, labour disputes and workplace policies, and handle terminations, grievances and workplace ethics

Required profile

• LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws); LL.M. or MBA is an added advantage
• Minimum of 10-15 years of legal experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in the automobile or manufacturing industry
• Membership in a recognized bar association or legal body

Required skills

• Strong understanding of corporate law, labour law, contract law, intellectual property and automotive regulatory requirements
• Negotiation, problem-solving, leadership, risk assessment and excellent communication skills
