Head of Accounts

About the role

The Head of Accounts is responsible for preparing quarterly financial statements, supervising daily accounting operations and ensuring accurate financial records and compliance with accounting standards. The role also covers payroll, bank reconciliations, statutory tax compliance and supervision of finance and accounts staff.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare quarterly financial statements and review accounts from trial balance to final statements
• Supervise daily accounting operations and maintain proper documentation
• Oversee bank payments, payment vouchers and regular bank reconciliations
• Review permanent, casual and contract staff payroll for accuracy and timeliness
• Manage customer accounts, receivables, payables and supplier invoice verification
• Maintain the fixed asset register and oversee asset tagging, verification and reconciliation
• Ensure proper inventory accounting, stock valuation and monitoring of stock movements
• Ensure statutory tax compliance (PAYE, WHT, VAT, CIT, ITF, NSITF) and coordinate tax matters
• Support internal, external and statutory audits
• Supervise finance and accounts staff and enforce internal controls
• Prepare financial reports and analysis for management decisions

Required profile

• HND in Accounting/Accountancy from a reputable institution
• At least 7-10 years of hands-on experience
• Experience in the manufacturing or trading sector
• ICAN certification
• Managerial or leadership experience is an added advantage

Required skills

• Use of accounting and ERP systems, preferably Odoo

• Monthly net remuneration of NGN 800,000 to 1.2 million
