Finance Assistant

About the role

The Finance Assistant provides essential support to the finance team, handling accounting tasks, budgeting, and financial reporting within a humanitarian context. This role ensures accurate processing of invoices, payments, and ledger entries while collaborating with program and logistics staff.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing monthly and annual financial statements, variance analysis and ad‑hoc reports.
• Process invoices, expenses, payments and reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
• Maintain journal entries, general ledger updates and daily cash position in the IMC TMS.
• Support budget preparation, monitoring and ensure documentation is filed and scanned for audit purposes.
• Coordinate with logistics and procurement to verify supporting documentation for payments.

Required profile

• University degree in Accounting or Business Administration (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 1 year experience in the humanitarian sector with knowledge of donor procedures (e.g., USAID, ECHO).
• Ability to work independently in a loosely structured, remote environment and handle multiple priorities.
• Fluency in English (written and oral); additional language skills as required by location.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel.
• Experience using ERP systems, preferably Costpoint.
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
