Credit Officer

About the role

The Credit Officer will manage the bank's credit administration processes, evaluate loan applications, conduct risk assessments, and monitor loan performance. This role supports business growth while maintaining high portfolio quality in a micro‑finance environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate loan applications in line with credit policies and risk frameworks.
• Conduct detailed credit analysis, financial assessments, and customer due diligence.
• Verify borrower information, perform field visits for appraisal, monitoring, and recovery.
• Prepare comprehensive credit appraisal reports and recommendations for management.
• Monitor loan portfolios, track performance, and identify early warning signs of default.
• Follow up on delinquent accounts and support loan recovery to minimise non‑performing loans.
• Maintain accurate loan documentation, collateral records, and credit reports.
• Ensure compliance with internal guidelines, CBN regulations, and other applicable standards.
• Support branch growth through quality loan generation and portfolio expansion.
• Collaborate with other departments to improve operational efficiency and customer service.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of experience in credit administration, loan management, or risk assessment within a micro‑finance bank or similar financial institution.
• Strong understanding of credit analysis, loan structuring, portfolio monitoring, and debt recovery processes.
• Good knowledge of micro‑finance banking operations and lending practices in Nigeria.
• Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem‑solving abilities.
• High attention to detail and sound decision‑making skills.
• Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple loan accounts simultaneously.
