Country Director (Nigeria)

About the role

MAG is seeking an experienced Country Director to lead its programme in Nigeria and provide oversight for smaller projects in Benin and Côte d'Ivoire. This senior leadership position is responsible for setting strategic direction, ensuring effective programme delivery, and strengthening MAG’s presence and partnerships in the region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and representation for MAG in Nigeria, reporting to MAG UK.
• Oversee all programme activities, ensuring safety, effectiveness, and compliance with MAG policies, donor requirements, and international standards.
• Lead the development and delivery of annual business plans and coordinate across strategic, operational, and programme functions.
• Manage programme budgets and financial performance across multiple grants and contracts.
• Identify and pursue business development opportunities, build relationships with donors and partners, and oversee proposal development and reporting.
• Represent MAG with government authorities, donors, and partners while maintaining oversight of security management and operational risk.
• Contribute to MAG’s global leadership team, shaping organisational strategy and upholding values and standards.

Required profile

• Substantial experience in senior management roles within complex, international operating environments.
• Demonstrated experience living and working in Nigeria, with deep understanding of the country’s political, socio‑economic, and cultural context.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and manage large‑scale humanitarian programmes.
• Strong track record of donor engagement, fundraising, and partnership development.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with government authorities and international stakeholders.
