Controller: Transport Operations (Fleet Controller)

About the role

The Fleet Controller oversees the daily operations of a vehicle fleet, ensuring efficient and timely haulage services for clients, with a focus on managing all aspects of fleet management. The role serves industries such as cold chain logistics and clients such as Nigerian Breweries.

Key responsibilities

• Plan routes and oversee fleet coordination.
• Maintain records (EDD, Instanta, I-Manager) and monitor fuel to benchmark productivity, fleet utilisation and operating costs.
• Maximise revenue by achieving trip targets and coordinating transport and logistics operations so that loading orders are met and goods are delivered to the right destinations.
• Update loaded trucks and trips in i-Manager, terminate completed trips and track daily positions and activities to achieve on-time delivery.
• Monitor service mileage, ensure trucks stay within speed limits and that tonnage loaded does not exceed truck capacity.
• Inspect trucks, trailers, accessories, documents and safety kits; ensure prompt documentation of incidents, accidents and insurance claims.
• Issue fuel on i-Manager according to approved charts, collect PODs promptly and manage fleet files and diesel consumption records.
• Hold pre- and post-trip briefings, conduct toolbox meetings, liaise with client and field staff, and escalate major issues to the Senior Fleet Controller.
• Ensure delivery officers are equipped with PPE, that risk assessments are carried out and reviewed, and that health, safety and security regulations are followed.

Required profile

• BSc or HND in Sciences or a Social Science, not below Second Class lower / Lower credit.
• Certified in Logistics, Transportation & Distribution (CLTD), Transportation & Logistics (CILT) and/or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP).
• Minimum 2-5 years' relevant experience, including supply chain, 3PL management, transport and logistics operations, fleet management and driver management.
