Consultant Urologist

About the role

The Consultant Urologist provides expert medical and surgical care for conditions of the urinary tract and male reproductive system, delivering clinical services, performing specialised surgery and leading a multidisciplinary urology team. The role also contributes to research, education and quality improvement at the African Medical Centre of Excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Manage urological cases, including elective and emergency care, and perform cystoscopy, tumour resections, stone extractions and minimally invasive or robotic-assisted procedures
• Treat urological cancers, stones, BPH, incontinence and male infertility, and manage emergencies such as renal colic, urinary retention and trauma
• Lead and supervise the urology department, including junior doctors, residents, nurses and allied health professionals, and run clinics, ward rounds and MDT meetings
• Take part in clinical audits, governance, quality improvement and protocol development, and support clinical targets
• Mentor residents, medical officers and students, conduct research, publish papers and present at conferences
• Take part in hospital committees, help plan the expansion of urological services, oversee departmental resources and maintain accurate documentation

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution
• Fellowship in Urology or a related surgical specialty (FMCS, FWACS, FRCS or international equivalent)
• Full registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and a valid practicing licence
• Minimum of 7 years' post-fellowship experience in urological practice with a strong surgical portfolio
• Demonstrated leadership experience, teaching and research track record
