Chief General Manager, Mechanical

About the role

Dangote Cement Plc is looking for a Chief General Manager, Mechanical. The role is responsible for the safe maintenance, repair or replacement of plant mechanical equipment and systems so that production quantity and quality are maximised, while supporting the company's policies, goals and objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Continuously control and monitor plant performance through measurement and analysis using standard tools, benchmarking and company indicators.
• Optimise and adapt the production process and equipment in line with the company's improvement programme and action plans.
• Monitor production performance, including costs and volumes of raw materials, energy and fuels, and equipment utilisation, against planned production, delivery, profitability and other targets.
• Implement strategies and programmes for quality products, plant capacity utilisation and efficiency.
• Develop and enforce policies and procedures for production methods, quality and safety, and create safe working conditions for employees and contractors.
• Develop plans and processes that minimise manufacturing costs through effective use of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials and capital.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Plant Director.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline; a professional degree such as an MBA is required.
• At least 25 years of experience in repairs and maintenance of cement manufacturing equipment, with at least 5 years in a senior management position.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of cement production processes and of the local and international cement industry, including trends, challenges, opportunities, regulations and legislation.
• Understanding of technical problems across operation and maintenance management (SAP experience helpful), process management, product quality, quality and environmental management, and project management.
• Strong knowledge of strategic planning and financial management.
• Leadership and people management skills, including managing multi-national and cross-cultural teams.
• Strong communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
