Architect / Engineering Lead

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on software engineer to lead the design and delivery of a complex web application. The role combines deep expertise in either backend or frontend development with the ability to guide a multidisciplinary team through architecture, implementation and release.

Key responsibilities

• Assess the existing system, produce an architecture assessment, define target architecture and document technology decisions with trade‑offs.
• Write production‑grade code on the critical path, own the deployment pipeline and ensure high‑risk components are delivered correctly.
• Lead a team of engineers (contract and in‑house), break work into manageable tasks, run stand‑ups, planning and retrospectives, and mentor team members.
• Own the delivery plan, report weekly status to leadership, raise risks early and translate technical constraints into business decisions.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software development experience with proven project‑management ownership of delivery timelines.
• Demonstrated experience leading engineers day‑to‑day, assigning work, reviewing code and unblocking blockers.
• Production experience building backend services in Python and frontend or Node services in TypeScript.
• Strong SQL skills, including query optimisation and schema design.
• Experience designing consumable APIs used by other teams or customers.
