AI Engineer

About the role

Flutterwave is seeking an AI Engineer to design and deploy production‑grade AI systems that are embedded directly into its payments infrastructure. The focus is on building a locally hosted LLM‑powered agent that autonomously investigates payment failures, reducing manual operational load and improving reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Design, train, and productionize a locally hosted LLM‑powered agent for autonomous payment failure analysis.
• Build internal LLM infrastructure without external API dependencies for core fintech workflows.
• Develop pipelines for root‑cause identification and generate standardized RCA reports.
• Optimize model performance to reduce Mean Time to Resolution and maintain high availability.
• Create reusable AI components, scalable training and inference pipelines, and reduce reliance on external AI services.
• Implement monitoring for latency, drift, and model performance, and establish retraining cadence.
• Deploy additional AI use cases (e.g., chatbot, automated reporting) while ensuring ≥99.9% uptime.
• Enforce AI governance through version‑controlled datasets, model versioning, benchmark evaluation, and documentation.

Required profile

• 4–7+ years of experience in Machine Learning or AI Engineering.
• Proven ability to deliver production‑grade AI solutions in high‑availability environments.
• Strong hands‑on engineering mindset with ownership of model lifecycle from design to monitoring.
• Experience working on fintech or payment‑related systems is a plus.
