Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) Engineer

About the role

Cornerstone Prosthetics and Orthotics Ltd is hiring a full-time Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) Engineer in Edo, Marina. The engineer operates, maintains and optimises 3D printers and their associated equipment, works closely with product designers and keeps production records.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot 3D printers and associated equipment
• Diagnose and resolve printing problems such as warping, bed adhesion failure, layer separation, extrusion inconsistencies and dimensional inaccuracies
• Develop, test, optimise and document slicer profiles for different engineering materials
• Manage filament drying, storage, handling and material traceability
• Perform preventive maintenance, coordinate repairs and manage essential spare parts
• Monitor print jobs, inspect completed components and ensure compliance with engineering specifications
• Maintain records of print jobs, material consumption, machine downtime, maintenance and production performance
• Collaborate with product designers to improve manufacturability and printing efficiency
• Develop standard operating procedures and continuously improve printing reliability, quality and productivity

Required profile

• Degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechatronics, materials engineering or a related discipline; candidates with exceptional practical experience may also be considered
• Minimum of two years of hands-on experience in FDM/FFF 3D printing or additive manufacturing
• Preferred: experience with enclosed FDM printers, engineering-grade polymers, functional load-bearing components, printer firmware and mechanical or electrical diagnostics
• Preferred: experience in prosthetics, orthotics, medical device manufacturing or other precision engineering environments

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of 3D printer operation, maintenance, calibration and fault diagnosis
• Slicing software and print parameter optimisation
• Understanding of engineering materials such as nylon, carbon-fibre-reinforced filaments, polypropylene, PETG and TPU
• Familiarity with CAD software, technical drawings and quality control procedures
• Root-cause analysis, troubleshooting and systematic experimentation
