Job description
About the role
A TSG company whose client helps African businesses get paid by anyone, anywhere, is looking for a Senior Accounting Analyst (titled Accounting Manager) to build a world-class financial reporting and control function across Nigeria and its expansion markets. The role combines hands-on technical accounting with analysis that explains the numbers to leadership, in a hybrid workplace in Lagos.
Key responsibilities
- Own the monthly management accounts and drive the month-end close, including full P&L and balance sheet review, with improved close efficiency and shorter turnaround.
- Lead balance sheet reconciliations across bank, intercompany and operational accounts, and oversee bank statement validation and reconciliation.
- Prepare and maintain intercompany schedules and consolidation workings, and align reporting with group requirements.
- Ensure accurate recording of transactions, review and approve journal entries, and enforce internal controls.
- Prepare annual and interim statutory financial statements under IFRS, consolidation notes and disclosures, and act as the main point of contact for auditors.
- Analyse revenue, cost and margin trends, support budgeting and forecasting, and build reporting tools and dashboards.
- Support tax teams with information for corporate income tax, VAT and withholding tax filings.
- Identify and fix inefficiencies in reporting and reconciliation workflows, and partner with Treasury, Product and Operations.
- Lead, coach and develop a team of accountants, allocate close tasks and run performance reviews.
Required profile
- At least 10 years of progressive experience preparing statutory financial statements under IFRS, with proven monthly management accounts and month-end close ownership.
- Hands-on experience with intercompany accounting, reconciliations and consolidation, and leading external audits from planning to sign-off.
- 2-3 years managing, coaching and reviewing accounting staff; Big Four or mid-tier audit experience followed by industry experience is strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field, and a professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CPA.
- Experience in complex, multi-entity structures and in fintech, banking, lending or other financial services.
Required skills
- IFRS, local tax and familiarity with US GAAP; advanced Excel or Google Sheets; ERP systems such as NetSuite, Oracle or SAP.
- SQL or BI tool experience is a plus.
- Ability to explain numbers clearly to non-finance stakeholders and to meet tight deadlines.
