Accountant

About the role

Terra Paints is hiring a full-time, on-site Accountant based in Port Harcourt. The role covers core accounting, tax compliance, inventory and product costing, and leading the migration to a new accounting software platform.

Key responsibilities

• Manage core accounting: day-to-day bookkeeping, general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations and payroll.
• Ensure tax compliance by handling monthly statutory filings and remittances, including VAT, PAYE and WHT with the relevant tax authorities.
• Control manufacturing inventory: track, value and conduct periodic physical counts of raw materials, work-in-progress and finished paint batches.
• Drive product costing by calculating and reviewing the cost of goods manufactured (COGM) and cost of goods sold (COGS), including raw materials, labour and overheads.
• Lead the migration to a new accounting software platform, evaluating, setting up and transitioning operations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; professional certification such as ACA or ACCA is an advantage.
• Experience in manufacturing, distribution or a similar industry is beneficial.
• Excellent organisational, analytical and problem-solving abilities, with integrity and discretion with financial information.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams on site.

Required skills

• Financial accounting, general ledger management and preparation of financial statements.
• Accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations and cash flow monitoring.
• Budgeting, forecasting and basic financial analysis.
• Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheets.
• Knowledge of tax regulations, accounting standards and internal control procedures.
