Senior Programme Director (Strategic Projects)

About the role

A rapidly expanding fintech and financial services organization serving Africa is hiring a Senior Programme Director through its client, recruited by eRecruiter. The role leads major strategic projects, partnerships and program deployments from initiation through execution, coordinating internal teams, external partners, government agencies and financial institutions so that projects are delivered on time, within scope and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Lead planning, execution and delivery of large-scale strategic initiatives, turning executive commitments and partnership agreements into implementation plans with scope, milestones, timelines, ownership and performance measures.
• Establish and oversee governance frameworks for complex, multi-organization projects, including project planning, resource allocation, decision-making and escalation pathways, and maintain documentation, risk registers and progress reports.
• Serve as primary operational lead for strategic partners, government agencies, financial institutions and enterprise stakeholders, translating regulatory, operational, legal and technical requirements into deliverables.
• Align Product, Technology, Risk, Operations, Legal and Business teams, identify dependencies and resource constraints, and resolve bottlenecks.
• Design scalable implementation frameworks for field operations, beneficiary profiling, onboarding and verification, and develop repeatable delivery playbooks.
• Anticipate risks, analyze root causes of delivery risks, present options and maintain escalation mechanisms and contingency plans.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Public Administration, Engineering, Finance or a related field.
• Significant experience managing large-scale, cross-functional programs or strategic initiatives.
• Proven track record coordinating multiple stakeholders across organizations and functions.
• Experience delivering projects involving government agencies, financial institutions, technology teams or large operational deployments.

The first 90 days focus on establishing program management frameworks (project plans, Gantt charts, risk registers, governance structures, weekly stakeholder reviews), deploying an active strategic partnership, bank integration or expansion initiative, building a standardized delivery playbook and setting up performance, risk and dependency reporting.
