Project Officer - Safeguarding (Nigerian Nationals Only)

About the role

The Safeguarding Officer will support safeguarding and accountability implementation for the Faith and Community Initiative (FCI) in Nigeria. Working within CRS’ country office and in coordination with project, MEAL, partner and government teams, the officer will ensure community‑based health activities are delivered safely, respectfully and accountably.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of CRS safeguarding policies across hub‑and‑spoke health service delivery activities and partner sites.
• Receive, document and refer safeguarding‑related concerns from participants, community members, CHWs, staff and partners following approved protocols.
• Maintain safeguarding records, trackers and follow‑up documentation; prepare concise updates and reports for risk monitoring.
• Facilitate safe, confidential feedback and reporting channels for program participants, communities and volunteers.
• Deliver safeguarding awareness sessions and adapt training materials for staff, partners, CHWs and volunteers.
• Collaborate with Program, MEAL, HR, Risk, consortium and government teams to promote safe programming and recommend improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology, law, counseling or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years relevant experience in safeguarding, accountability, protection, MEAL or community engagement, preferably with an NGO or humanitarian organization.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and apply survivor‑centered principles.
• Fluency in English required; fluency in Hausa, Pidgin or other local languages is an advantage.
