Head of Human Resources

About the role

The Head of Human Resources will provide strategic leadership and operational management for all HR functions at the Nigeria Governors' Forum. This senior role drives HR strategy, policy implementation and workforce engagement to support the Forum’s mission.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute recruitment strategies, overseeing the full hiring cycle to attract top talent.
• Design and deliver training programs, identify skill gaps and promote continuous professional development.
• Administer competitive compensation and benefits packages while ensuring compliance with Nigerian labour laws.
• Manage day‑to‑day HR operations including payroll, employee records, HRIS administration and budget oversight.
• Lead employee engagement initiatives, conduct surveys, and promote health and wellness programs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• 12‑15 years of HR experience with at least 4 years in a leadership role, preferably in the public sector or NGOs.
• Membership in a professional HR body (e.g., CIPM) and HR certification such as SHRM‑CP or PHR is a plus.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of HR best practices, recruitment, employee relations, compensation and performance management.
• Strong understanding of Nigerian labour legislation and compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with modern HR software and HRIS tools.
