Principal Mobile Engineer – POS Terminal

About the role

Moniepoint is seeking a Principal Mobile Engineer to lead the design and architecture of its POS terminal solutions across Android and emerging cross‑platform technologies. You will ensure the security, scalability, and performance of payment systems while guiding a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Design and own the architecture of Android‑based POS terminals and related mobile applications, ensuring compliance with EMV standards.
• Produce and maintain up‑to‑date architectural diagrams and documentation for all POS platforms.
• Make critical software decisions, integrate payment processors, card readers, pin pads, printers and other peripherals.
• Optimize system performance and security, conduct code reviews, and enforce best practices for mobile and embedded development.
• Mentor engineers, participate in hiring, and drive process improvements across the POS engineering team.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in system design, architecture and development within the POS terminal domain.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, able to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Proven ability to work with cross‑functional product and engineering teams to meet market and business goals.

Required skills

• Android Native development (Java/Kotlin).
• Cross‑platform mobile development (Flutter) and familiarity with C and JavaScript.
• Deep knowledge of EMV security protocols, chip‑based transactions, encryption and key management.
• Hardware integration experience with card readers, pin pads, printers and other POS peripherals.
• Understanding of payment systems architecture, including integration with processors and gateways.
