Nutrition Capacity Building Officer

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is hiring a Nutrition Capacity Building Officer in Gusau, Zamfara State, Nigeria. Reporting to the Nutrition Manager, the officer oversees all nutrition activities for IRC-supported SC/OTPs in the assigned Local Government Area, supervises supported SMOH SC/OTP staff and CNMs, and ensures integrity and transparency in project implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and monitor nutrition activities and outputs at field level, track progress against targets and conduct periodic progress analyses
• Provide capacity building and on-the-job coaching to facility staff in CMAM services, including IYCF best practices
• Design and lead assessments, support data collection, reporting (including HMIS) and regular nutrition reports
• Monitor supported SC/OTP facilities regularly, track work plans and act as liaison between IRC, LGAs and implementing partners
• Conduct nutritional surveillance (surveys, SMART, LQAS, SQUEAC) and community-based management of acute malnutrition, including follow-up and referrals
• Coordinate training curricula for Community Health Volunteers, support operational research, rapid nutrition assessments and KAP surveys
• Help respond to nutrition emergencies such as acute food shortages and promote mother-infant and young child feeding practices
• Supervise nutrition staff, coach and mentor them, approve leave requests, and take part in recruitment and performance reviews
• Take part in proposal, budget and donor reporting, and represent the program to local government and partners

Required profile

• Health professional (Nutrition and Dietetics, MD or RN) with a strong nutrition background
• At least 3 years of experience managing and implementing nutrition programs, including outbreak response
• Able to lead a team and work with displaced communities of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
• Fluent in English and Hausa
• Full professional competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
