Licensed Mental Health Counselor

About the role

HealthPlanet Foundation, a non-profit advancing mental wellness worldwide with a strong presence in Africa, is hiring a full-time Licensed Mental Health Counselor for its Owerri location. The role provides on-site, client-centered counseling, including individual and group therapy, psychosocial assessments and personalized treatment plans based on evidence-based practice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual and group therapy sessions and complete psychosocial assessments
• Develop personalized treatment plans covering anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges and stress management
• Maintain clear, accurate clinical documentation
• Manage ongoing cases and coordinate referrals to community resources
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary partners and contribute to workshops or psychoeducational programs
• Take part in supervision, quality improvement activities and staff meetings

Required profile

• Licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor or equivalent, in line with local regulations
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or a closely related field
• Experience in relationship counseling and supporting clients with interpersonal, family and community challenges
• Experience in non-profit, community mental health or similar settings is an advantage

Required skills

• Treatment planning and case management, including assessment, goal setting and follow-up
• Evidence-based therapeutic approaches
• Strong communication and active listening, with ethical boundaries, confidentiality and trauma-informed, culturally sensitive practice
• Organized record keeping and ability to handle multiple cases
