About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is hiring a Nutrition Assistant in Zamfara State, Nigeria, to oversee all nutrition activities for IRC-supported Outpatient Treatment Programs (OTPs) in the assigned local government area. Working under the supervision of the Nutrition Manager, the post-holder ensures integrity and transparency in project implementation and supervises supported SMOH OTPs, SC staff and CNMs.

Key responsibilities

Support planning and implementation of nutrition services at field level and track project performance against targets
Ensure quality identification and treatment of medical complications of malnutrition, advise on referrals to the nearest SC and escort patients to referral facilities
Supervise patient management in OTPs, monitor and record vital signs, and improve the MIYCN program so mothers breastfeed well
Monitor therapeutic feeds (RUTF, therapeutic milk, ReSoMal) and ensure clients receive them
Conduct periodic progress analysis at LGA level, document lessons learned and identify program gaps
Provide capacity building and coaching to facility staff on IMAM services and MIYCF best practices
Support nutrition data collection, reporting to SMOHs through LGA health authorities (HMIS) and project visibility
Visit OTP facilities regularly, collect success stories and photos, and collaborate with Environmental Health, Women Protection & Empowerment and Child Protection
Monitor staff performance, participate in proposals and budgets, and maintain equipment and supplies

Required profile

BNSC, BSc or Diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, Nutrition or Health Education with a strong nutrition background
Registration with a professional body or council in Nigeria
At least 2 years' experience managing and implementing nutrition programs for OTPs
Able to lead a team, work under pressure and with displaced communities of diverse cultures

Required skills

Good use of Microsoft Office packages
Nutrition program management and monitoring and evaluation
