Legal Officer – Corporate Governance & Litigation

About the role

The Legal Officer is responsible for executing day‑to‑day legal operations, ensuring robust contract management, and supporting corporate governance protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Company Secretary with board and committee meeting preparation, minute taking, and tracking implementation of action points.
• Draft, review, negotiate commercial contracts, lease agreements, NDAs and SLAs, and standardise internal contract templates.
• Coordinate title perfection, registration of charges and land‑asset documentation, and file statutory returns with corporate regulators.
• Maintain the litigation register, collate case materials for external counsel, and review counsel billings against engagement terms.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Call to the Bar (BL) – mandatory.
• 7–9 years of progressive post‑call experience in a top‑tier commercial law firm or in‑house legal department within financial services or real estate.
• Member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA); progress toward ICSAN certification is an advantage.

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in drafting precise, legally binding commercial agreements and corporate documents.
• Practical knowledge of Nigerian corporate law, real estate law, and land‑registry procedures.
• Excellent ability to summarise complex corporate discussions into concise, professional minutes.
• Capability to resolve contractual deadlocks and minor external disputes constructively.
