Legal Officer – Corporate Governance & Compliance

About the role

The Brooks Africa is seeking a proactive Legal Officer to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and corporate governance requirements. The role will support the board of directors, manage statutory records and act as the main liaison with shareholders, regulators and auditors.

Key responsibilities

• Vet and draft legal documents, contracts and agreements related to company transactions.
• Ensure compliance with corporate laws, regulatory requirements and governance standards.
• Advise the board on governance best practices, legal matters and risk mitigation.
• Organise and coordinate board meetings, prepare agendas and take minutes.
• Maintain statutory registers, corporate documents and file returns with authorities such as the CAC.
• Develop and monitor compliance frameworks and manage legal disputes.

Required profile

• Qualified Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
• Minimum 7 years post‑call experience, preferably in litigation, corporate law and regulatory compliance within real estate.
• Proven ability to manage multiple cases and meet competing deadlines.
• Excellent drafting, legal research and analytical skills with strong professional judgment.
