Head of Operations – Capital Markets

About the role

The Head of Operations will provide strategic leadership for the firm’s capital market activities, ensuring operational excellence and regulatory compliance. This senior position reports to executive management and drives both efficiency and growth across all operational functions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise all capital market operations, including trade execution support, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, and custody.
• Ensure full compliance with SEC, NGX, CSCS and other regulatory bodies.
• Develop, implement and continuously improve operational policies, procedures and internal controls.
• Identify, assess and manage operational risks while maintaining business continuity.
• Drive process improvement and technology adoption to enhance operational efficiency.
• Mentor and develop the operations team to achieve high performance.
• Lead business development initiatives to expand market share, client base and revenue.
• Build and maintain relationships with institutional and retail clients, regulators and market stakeholders.
• Conduct market research and provide insights on capital market trends and regulatory developments.
• Prepare periodic operational and management reports for senior leadership.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Banking or related discipline.
• Associate or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) – mandatory.
• Minimum seven years of experience in capital market operations, preferably within a stockbroking firm.
• Proven experience in securities trading operations, settlement, clearing, reconciliation, regulatory reporting and operational risk management.
• Track record in business development and client relationship management in the capital market.
• Strong knowledge of the Nigerian capital market, its products, regulatory framework and best practices.
