Group Tax Officer – Tax Compliance Specialist

About the role

The Finance Officer (Tax) will support the organisation’s tax compliance framework, ensuring accurate tax computations, timely statutory remittances and proper documentation. The role aims to minimise tax risk exposure while maintaining full compliance with Nigerian tax laws.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review tax computations and schedules for VAT, Withholding Tax, PAYE, Company Income Tax, Tertiary Education Tax, Stamp Duties and other statutory levies.
• Ensure timely filing and remittance of all statutory taxes in line with regulatory deadlines.
• Maintain organised tax records, schedules and supporting documentation, both physical and electronic.
• Reconcile tax accounts in the general ledger, investigate variances and prepare periodic tax reports for management.
• Support tax audits, investigations and reviews by providing required documentation and analysis.
• Assist in responding to queries from tax authorities such as FIRS and State Internal Revenue Services.
• Monitor changes in tax legislation, assess impact on the organisation and provide internal guidance on compliance for new transactions.
• Assist the Group Tax Manager in implementing tax planning strategies to optimise tax efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• 2–4 years of relevant experience in tax compliance, preferably within a corporate or financial services environment.
• Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA or CITN) or progress toward certification is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and statutory regulations.
