About the role
Plan International Nigeria is seeking a Consultant to lead formative research for the EU‑funded project “Accelerating Basic Education and Livelihood Opportunities for Children and Youth in North Western Nigeria.” The role will support the design and implementation of evidence‑based interventions aimed at reducing out‑of‑school rates and improving learning outcomes for vulnerable children, especially girls and children with disabilities.
Key responsibilities
- Design and conduct formative research studies (qualitative and quantitative) to understand barriers to education in target states.
- Collect, analyse and synthesize data on socio‑cultural, economic and security factors affecting school attendance.
- Prepare research briefs, reports and recommendations for programme design and policy advocacy.
- Collaborate with local partners, government agencies and community stakeholders to ensure research relevance and ethical standards.
- Present findings to project teams, donors and senior management.
Required profile
- University degree in Social Sciences, Education, Development Studies or related field.
- Minimum 3 years experience conducting research in education or humanitarian contexts.
- Demonstrated experience working in Nigeria, preferably in northern states.
- Strong analytical thinking and ability to translate findings into actionable recommendations.
