Accounting Supervisor

About the role

Cummins Inc. is looking for an Accounting Supervisor to join its Finance team within the Distribution Business Unit in Lagos, Nigeria. The role leads the maintenance of the general ledger, oversees financial reporting and internal controls, and develops and leads a high-performing accounting team.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger so that financial transactions are recorded accurately, completely and on time.
• Implement and uphold accounting policies, practices and procedures that support compliance, consistency and financial integrity.
• Review, analyze and record complex financial information, revenue and expenditure transactions to drive accurate financial reporting.
• Review and validate account reconciliations, balance sheet accounts, profit and loss statements and consolidated financial reports.
• Identify control weaknesses and financial risks, and lead remedial actions to strengthen internal controls.
• Research complex accounting matters and recommend improvements to support sound financial decisions.
• Design, improve and maintain accounting systems and processes.
• Develop and lead the accounting team through coaching, mentoring, work assignment and performance feedback.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or HND in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification (ACA or ACCA) required.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and Nigerian tax compliance.
• Big Four audit or consulting experience is an added advantage.

Required skills

• Strong financial analysis skills to interpret data, identify trends, risks and opportunities.
• Solid understanding of financial regulations, compliance and tax requirements.
• Technical accounting expertise to handle complex transactions in line with accounting standards and company policies.
• Knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls and statutory obligations.
