Accountant – Retail/FMCG (Lagos)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Accountant to manage day‑to‑day accounting, tax compliance and financial reporting in a fast‑paced, high‑volume retail environment. You will ensure accurate records and full compliance with Nigeria’s latest tax regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate ledgers for sales, purchases, inventory and expenses across multiple stores.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, profit & loss, balance sheet and cash‑flow statements.
• Reconcile bank, inter‑company and supplier/vendor statements.
• Handle VAT, WHT, CIT and PAYE calculations and filings in line with the new Nigeria Tax Law.
• Oversee daily POS and cash reconciliation, supplier invoicing, GRN matching and high‑volume SKU payment processing.
• Support inventory costing, stock loss analysis, shrinkage investigations and resolve discrepancies with store operations and supply chain.
• Enforce internal financial controls, coordinate internal and external audits and implement process improvements to accelerate month‑end close.

Required profile

• B.Sc/HND in Accounting, Finance or related field; ACA/ACCA/CPA qualification is an advantage.
• 4–5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in retail, FMCG or mass‑retail environments.
• Hands‑on experience with Nigeria’s current tax law (VAT, WHT, CIT, PAYE) and Finance Act updates.
• Strong knowledge of Excel and ERP/accounting software, with ability to handle high transaction volumes and tight month‑end deadlines.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Experience using ERP or other accounting software.
