Access Network Planning Engineer

About the role

Equinix is seeking an Access Network Planning Engineer to design and optimise access networks using a variety of transmission media. You will ensure cost‑effective solutions while supporting the rollout of microwave (MW) links, GPON connections and related infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate site and TSS surveys for PoPs, MW links, equipment cabinets and tower deployments.
• Generate detailed microwave link engineering documents using Pathloss and other planning tools to meet KPI targets.
• Manage overall project planning, track milestones and issue accurate scopes of work to contractors.
• Maintain an inventory/database of deployed MW radios and GPON links and ensure regulatory compliance with frequency allocations.
• Prepare bi‑annual MW radio link reports for the regulator (NCC) and support escalated field issues.
• Conduct frequency interference checks with a spectrum analyser as required.
• Validate BoM submissions from OEMs against RFP specifications and collaborate with technical sales for PoP profitability analysis.
• Continuously optimise access network links for operational efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
• 1‑3 years of relevant experience post‑NYSC.
• Ability to interpret topography, network design maps and CAD designs.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and good time‑management.
• Willingness to travel on short notice and work with minimal supervision.
