Head of Risk and Compliance

About the role

The Head of Risk and Compliance will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the bank’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework. Reporting to Executive Management, this senior position ensures the institution meets all regulatory obligations while embedding a strong risk culture across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and regularly review the ERM framework, policies and procedures.
• Identify, assess, monitor and mitigate strategic, operational, credit, market, liquidity, compliance and reputational risks.
• Ensure compliance with CBN guidelines, NDIC requirements, AML/CFT regulations, KYC standards and other applicable laws.
• Develop and maintain a compliance monitoring programme and prepare all regulatory reports and statutory returns.
• Conduct enterprise‑wide risk assessments and advise on mitigation strategies for the Board and Executive Management.
• Review new products, services and business initiatives for regulatory and operational risk exposure.
• Coordinate regulatory examinations, respond to observations and manage corrective actions.
• Promote risk awareness through training, policy reviews and staff engagement.
• Collaborate with Internal Audit, Operations, Finance, Credit, HR and IT to strengthen governance.
• Supervise, mentor and develop the Risk & Compliance team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Banking & Finance, Economics, Law, Business Administration or related field.
• Mandatory MCIB certification.
• Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience, with at least 4 years in financial services and 2 years in a supervisory role.
• In‑depth knowledge of CBN competency requirements for Key Management Staff of micro‑finance institutions.
