Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer – Manufacturing

About the role

We are looking for an HSE Officer to lead health, safety and environmental initiatives across our manufacturing site. The role ensures a safe, compliant workplace by preventing accidents, managing environmental risks and fostering a strong safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular safety inspections, audits and risk assessments in production areas, warehouses and offices.
• Monitor compliance with all HSE policies, procedures and Nigerian statutory regulations.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, near‑misses and unsafe conditions, prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by employees and contractors.
• Deliver HSE inductions, toolbox talks, safety drills and awareness training.
• Maintain accurate HSE records, incident logs and compliance documentation.
• Oversee fire safety systems, emergency response procedures, first‑aid readiness and evacuation plans.
• Manage environmental practices such as waste disposal, pollution prevention and hazardous material handling.
• Support regulatory inspections and liaise with government agencies and external auditors.
• Track and close corrective actions from audits and inspections.
• Promote a proactive safety culture through hazard reporting and employee engagement.

Required profile

• Minimum HND/B.Sc. in Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Safety, Occupational Health or related field.
• At least 2 years of HSE experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Good knowledge of Nigerian HSE regulations and factory safety standards.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and documentation abilities.
• Relevant certifications such as ISPON, HSE Level 1‑3 or Basic Fire Safety are preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office for reporting and documentation.
• Experience conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations.
• Risk assessment and hazard identification expertise.
