About the role
The Decarbonisation Specialist will support the Head of Sustainability in driving carbon‑reduction initiatives across Dangote Cement operations. This role focuses on implementing the group decarbonisation roadmap through process optimisation, fuel switching, clinker substitution and emerging technologies.
Key responsibilities
- Implement plant and group‑level decarbonisation roadmap aligned with sustainability targets.
- Evaluate and monitor CO₂ emissions from cement production and identify reduction opportunities.
- Manage the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) process, conduct Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and ensure compliance with standards.
- Collaborate with the Alternative Fuel team on raw material substitution projects (e.g., slag, fly ash).
- Support pilot projects for limestone calcined clay, R&D and emerging technologies.
- Work with process and production engineering teams to optimise kiln performance and energy efficiency.
- Prepare and deliver Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions reports, maintaining GHG inventories per the GHG Protocol.
- Partner with procurement, transport and R&D teams to reduce upstream and downstream emissions.
- Ensure compliance with climate policies, carbon‑offsetting regulations and green‑financing opportunities.
- Lead internal training sessions to raise awareness of decarbonisation initiatives.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field (advanced degree advantageous).
- Minimum 5 years experience in the cement industry, environmental sustainability or a related field.
- Proven experience in decarbonisation, carbon management or energy‑efficiency projects in heavy industry.
- At least 2 years experience in GHG accounting.
Required skills
- Strong understanding of cement production processes and their environmental impact.
- Expertise in decarbonisation technologies such as alternative fuels, low‑carbon cement alternatives and CCUS.
- Experience with Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
- Ability to analyse and visualise data, develop forecasts and prepare detailed technical reports.
